When we blow-in insulation we use Cellulose. How does it compare to blown-in fiberglass or even fiberglass  batts? Let's just say it performs far superior. For one thing it fills every nook and cranny which provides a continuous thermal barrier seal, sort-of-speak. Fiberglass batts are separate pieces that do not perfectly fit allowing extra heat loss, therefor makings its alleged R value not to be so true. Blown-in Fiberglass actually is extremely light and basically is useless as a thermal barrier while Cellulose is heavier and has proven to be more effective in this regard.
